Technology

We leverage tools, systems, and methodologies to drive efficiency, safety and decision support across the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance phases of infrastructure projects and programs.

Employing technology solutions in infrastructure development and maintenance can improve project planning and design, reduce costs, enhance asset reliability, extend asset lifespan, reduce maintenance costs, and ensure the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure. Our team has expertise in asset management, communication systems, drone technology, electrical/instrumentation and control systems, ITS, and project visualizations.

Asset Management

Infrastructure owners face increasing demands to optimize the performance, reliability, and lifespan of infrastructure assets while minimizing risks and lifecycle costs. Lochner works with clients to develop asset management programs that include Asset Capture, Asset Conditions, and Asset Analysis and Planning. Lochner’s Asset Capture approach includes the inventory, structure data, and location (GPS) of assets while our Asset Condition approach follows condition ratings from federal, state, and local regulations. Through Asset Analysis and Planning, Lochner assists in capital improvement planning for all assets including pavement, bridge structures, large culverts, small structures, high mast lights, ITS structures, cobra headlights, and sign structures, as well as water and wastewater infrastructure. Through our multiple relationships with software companies, our team supports in implementation of asset management software tailored to your needs.

Communication Systems

With deep expertise in rail and bus rapid transit communication systems, our team supports a full range of services including outside and inside plant fiber optic and copper cabling, ethernet networks, conduit design, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Public Address (PA) and Passenger Information Management Systems (PIMS), Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC), radio systems, building management and field control systems, security and Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) systems, IP telephone systems, and systems integration.

Drone Technology

Our unmanned aerial platforms carry a variety of industry-leading sensors designed to capture high-resolution photos, videos, thermal images, LiDAR, and oblique images, providing timely and accurate data for decision-making, monitoring, and assessment purposes. Our fleet is ready for safe, efficient, and rapid deployment for aerial mapping, infrastructure inspection and asset management, construction monitoring, and site inspection and safety.

Electrical/Instrumentation and Control Systems

We integrate both electrical (medium and low voltage systems below 4,160 volts) and control engineering principles, assessing the power distribution requirements, and determining the optimal configuration of transformers, switchgear, motors, pumps and protective devices to ensure safe and reliable operation. This involves selecting appropriate sensors, transmitters, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and human-machine interfaces (HMIs) to monitor and regulate various parameters within the system. Integration of these components is critical to achieve seamless communication and coordination between the electrical and control systems, enabling efficient operation and rapid response to dynamic process conditions.

Intelligent Transportation Systems

Lochner provides a full range of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) consulting services, with expertise in the planning, design, construction, inspection and integration of ITS solutions within a cyber-safe communications network. In addition to being the Engineer of Record for ITS designs, we have extensive experience serving as program manager and owner’s representative in the development and implementation of capital ITS improvements. Maximizing the performance of existing transportation systems, our engineers support the planning, design and construction of ITS deployments and Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) strategies. We also have experience in designing ITS communications infrastructure to enhance mobility and improve safety, including Integrated Corridor Management (ICM), advanced traveler information and safety systems, managed lanes through all electronic dynamic tolling, Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), and smart work zones.

Visualizations

Dynamic visualizations play a crucial role in the development of infrastructure by providing stakeholders with a clear and intuitive understanding of project concepts, designs, and impacts. From immersive 3D models to interactive visualizations, renderings and simulations, our creative services team brings solutions to life, facilitating collaboration, communication, and decision-making.
