Matthew Cochran Presents at the International Bridge Conference
Matthew Cochran, PE, structural engineer from Lochner’s Pittsburgh office, will be presenting at the 2020 International Bridge Conference (IBC), hosted by the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania (ESWP).
On Monday, October 19, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Matthew will be participating in “PennDOT’s First SPMT Bridge Move: Shaler Street Bridge – Owner, Designer, & Contractor Perspective.” On Tuesday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Matthew will be presenting “Replacement of the Shaler Street Bridge Using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters.” Self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) played a vital role in the replacement of Shaler Street Bridge. The bridge crosses State Route (19), a high‐volume, north‐south expressway with an average daily traffic count of 28,000 vehicles. The implementation of SPMTs allowed the project team to install the new Shaler Street Bridge in two days, significantly minimizing traffic impacts. During the first session, Matthew will be joined by Louis Ruzzi, PE, and Shane Szalankiewicz, PE, from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Patrick Heer, EIT, from Mammoet. During the second session, Matthew will be joined by PennDOT’s Louis Ruzzi.
