Built by the Work Projects Administration (WPA) in 1940, the Urho Saari Swim Stadium, a beloved jewel to the residents of El Segundo, is getting a second life.
The City of El Segundo selected our team to provide construction management and inspection services for the renovation and improvement of the Urho Saari Swim Stadium, better known as The Plunge. The Stadium is named after a highly regarded swim coach and athletic legend in the South Bay region, Urho Saari, who came to the area in 1941 and coached Olympic water polo and swim teams.
The proposed ADA compliant renovations include pool and locker room upgrades, new bleacher areas, lobby area and office renovations, elevated terrace seating area, seismic reinforcement of the existing foundation, and fire protection, information technology, and security upgrades.
