Locher Presents at the 2024 ACEC-KY/FHWA/KYTC Partnering Conference
Lochner recently attended and presented at the 2024 ACEC-KY/FHWA/KYTC Partnering Conference in Lexington, Kentucky, which brought together industry professionals and leaders from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), ACEC-Kentucky, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
Lochner’s Tony Miller, CSE, PWS, alongside KYTC’s Andrew Logsdon, delivered a presentation on Lochner’s leadership of a wildlife crossing pilot study for KYTC. The study, focused on US 60 and I-64 between Frankfort and Louisville, is designed to mitigate wildlife-vehicle collisions.
The presentation covered project funding, the critical need for this initiative, and the innovative approaches being implemented. Lochner’s team is gathering data on wildlife movement, identifying crash hotspots, and leveraging advanced technologies such as thermal imaging and multivariate modeling to reveal hidden patterns in wildlife behavior. This pilot study serves as a crucial first step toward a potential statewide program aimed at reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions across Kentucky.
