On June 24, 2019, a group of local officials and citizens gathered on US 69 outside of Pittsburg, Kansas for a ceremonial ribbon cutting. The event marked the completion of the US 69 Reconstruction project through Bourbon County. The completion of these widening and reconstruction efforts have increased the continuous four-lane section to a total of 76 miles.
Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce President Blake Benson, commented, “[This is] an effort that literally dates back more than 70 years and has involved every single community from Overland Park to Baxter Springs, Kansas. Having the four-lane is crucial for safety, growth and economic development of this region.”
Alongside Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), Lochner managed and inspected the various construction aspects of the US 69 project in Bourbon County. The project involved construction of two new lanes alongside the existing two-lane section and included grading, erosion control measures, subgrade modification, cement treated base, two new bridges, one bridge rehabilitation, concrete paving, and permanent seeding.
