A vision for safer, more efficient travel came to life on a 3,000-foot stretch of Diamond Hill Road (RI Route 114) at its juncture with I-295, where Lochner converted the existing conventional ramps at the interchanges to new roundabouts in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT). This project tackled long-standing traffic and safety concerns by introducing the two-lane roundabouts and redesigning key intersections with upgraded geometric and signals, improving traffic flow for travelers.
The project team addressed key challenges by conducting thorough traffic analyses, implementing practical stormwater solutions, and providing ADA accessibility, all while working within site constraints. our environmental team secured permits and incorporated sustainable features such as bioretention areas, infiltration systems, and Stormwater Treatment Units to address impacts to neighboring wetlands.
Through close collaboration with RIDOT, FHWA, and other stakeholders, the team delivered a project that enhances safety, supports environmental sustainability, and leaves a lasting positive impact on the community.
