Location Peabody, Massachusetts

- Landscape Architecture
At Peabody Square, the design fulfilled the City’s goals to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and create usable pedestrian spaces. New intersection geometry with upgraded traffic signals throughout, improved traffic flow and increased safety at crosswalks. To garner public support for the project, we utilized traffic simulation models to illustrate the improved conditions and enhanced traffic flow expected from the proposed changes.
As a part of the project, two pedestrian plazas were created. The Sailors and Soldiers Monument was relocated to a large plaza area which provides a focal point for the Square. Ornamental street lighting, uplighting of the Monument, plantings and street furniture were incorporated to enhance the aesthetics of the area. Lochner worked closely with the City to select materials and detailing that blend with the improvements on Main Street and suit the historic town center.
