Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) Project Receives ACEC Illinois Award
On February 8, 2018, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL) held their 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards Gala with over 700 people in attendance. The Engineering Excellence Awards are presented annually to transportation projects in the private and public sector. Project submittals are judged on a basis of engineering excellence, degree to which client needs are met, and the benefits to the public welfare and private practice of engineering. Lochner’s Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) Rebuilding and Widening Project received Honor Awards in the transportation division.
Lochner, as part of a joint venture, was selected for the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) Rebuilding and Widening Project as part of the Illinois Tollway’s $12 billion Move Illinois capital improvement program. Lochner was responsible for the widening and reconstruction of existing mainline and ramp pavements, as well as existing bridges; the rehabilitation of cross road structures, landscape design, and roadway lighting; the development of best management practices, and noise analysis; modifications to open road tolling facilities; and geometric design. The structures designed consisted of two two-span precast prestressed reinforced concrete I-beam bridges and two two-span continuous web steel plate girder superstructures. The bridges were supported by integral abutments founded on piles and a median pier founded on a pile supported footing.
