Lochner Receives California Engineering Excellence Commendation Award
Our team recently attended the 2026 ACEC California Engineering Excellence Awards banquet as a Ruby Sponsor, where two projects were recognized with Engineering Excellence Commendation Awards. These honors highlight innovative engineering and planning solutions that enhance safety, mobility, and housing across California communities.
Town of Apple Valley Highway 18 Access Plan
The Highway 18 Access Plan addresses safety and connectivity along a 3.5-mile corridor with a history of disproportionate pedestrian and bicycle fatalities. The plan prioritizes the Town’s East Side—the lowest-income community with limited access to services—helping close critical gaps in safe mobility and equity.
This plan was a key component of the Town’s successful 2025 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant application, securing nearly $10 million in federal funding, the largest award in California for that round. Planned improvements include multi-use trails and sidewalks, drainage upgrades, and broader infrastructure modernization designed to transform the corridor into a safe, connected route for residents. The planning effort was funded through a Caltrans Sustainable Communities Planning Grant.
City of Long Beach Homekey Luxury Inn Motel Renovation
This project converted a long-vacant hotel into nearly 80 units of supportive housing, providing much-needed housing for individuals experiencing homelessness.
The team implemented targeted upgrades within the existing structure to maximize cost efficiency and deliver the project in just over a year. In close collaboration with the City of Long Beach and project partners, the renovation created a facility that not only provides housing and supportive services but also contributes positively to the surrounding neighborhood.
Congratulations to the teams and partners who helped bring these projects to life.
