Taiwo Jaiyeoba Shares Bus Rapid Transit Insight at APTA’s 2025 Mobility Conference
National Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Transit Planning Director, Taiwo Jaiyeoba presented at the 2025 APTA Mobility Conference, which drew a record-breaking number of attendees to Austin, Texas. National Transit and Rail Market Director, Gary Thomas also represented Lochner at the conference.
During the conference’s BRT Workshop, Taiwo co-presented with our Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) client, Darden Rice. Their session, How BRTs Can Achieve the Community’s Economic Development and Mobility Goals, explored how BRT can deliver more efficient, reliable, and accessible service in communities of all sizes. Their session also entailed lessons learned from the PSTA SunRunner—Tampa’s first BRT service and 2024 APTA Excellence in Inclusion Award recipient.
Taiwo has over 30 years of transit planning leadership in both public and private sectors. He has overseen BRT, Light Rail Transit (LRT), and streetcar/urban circulator projects across the U.S., along with transit master plans, corridor studies, and land use initiatives.
Prior to Lochner, Taiwo served as City Manager for Greensboro, North Carolina, where he launched the city’s first transit department and a 20-year mobility plan. He also held leadership roles in Charlotte, North Carolina, as Assistant City Manager and Director of Planning where he led major mobility and transit strategies including the award-winning Charlotte Comprehensive Land Use Plan. Taiwo’s BRT experience dates back to his Silver Line BRT involvement when he served as the Executive Director of Planning & Program Development for The Rapid in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Taiwo is an alumnus of Leadership APTA, the ENO Center for Leadership in Transportation, and the MIT Sloan School of Management. He advocates strongly for mobility, accessibility, and connectivity within urban environments through his involvement as a member of APTA, the American Planning Association (APA), and the International City/County Managers Association. He also serves on the National Steering Committee for the Housing Supply Accelerator—a joint effort of APA and the National League of Cities. Additionally, Taiwo has been recognized for his contributions to urban planning, including being named Charlottean of the Year in 2020 and receiving the American Institute of Architects Charlotte Chapter’s Laurel Award.
