Whiting Street in downtown Tampa is a two-lane corridor that begins at the Hillsborough River and continues east, crossing under the Selmon Expressway and ending at Brush Street. To the east of the CSX rail lines, the corridor begins again at Meridian Avenue and continues east until it intersects with Channelside Drive. To improve traffic flow, accommodate future travel demand, and offer additional connections within the street network, the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) is considering the realignment or extension of Whiting Street to provide direct connectivity to Meridian Avenue. THEA is also considering the reconfiguration of the eastbound Selmon Expressway on-ramp at Jefferson Street, as well as the eastbound off-ramps at Florida Avenue and Channelside Drive. Lochner is conducting the project development and environment (PD&E) study.
As part of the PD&E study, Lochner is evaluating the need and impact of extending Whiting Street by coordinating extensively with adjacent PD&E studies to provide a comprehensive overview of capacity needs within the eastern portions of downtown Tampa.
