KFA Attends and Presents at the Texas Water 2024 Conference
This week, our KFA colleagues participated and presented at the Texas Water 2024 conference in Fort Worth, Texas. Organized by the Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT) and the Texas American Water Works Association (Texas AWWA), this event stands as the largest regional water conference in the United States. Attendees had the chance to connect with a diverse array of industry leaders, operators, engineers, and manufacturers.
At the conference, KFA’s Project Manager Mike Persyn, PE, presented insights from the Spicewood Emergency Sewer Repairs Case Study, highlighting key lessons learned. The San Antonio Water System requested emergency engineering services for the replacement of 867 linear feet of 54-inch and 66-inch reinforced concrete pipe located at Spicewood Park due to a collapse of the existing sewer. KFA rapidly developed a 75 MGD bypass pumping package for bidding within two days and concurrently prepared plans for open-cut sewer replacement within 1.5 weeks from notification of the collapse. This immediate mobilization effectively mitigated potential future overflows, with a fully operational bypass online less than 30 days after KFA commenced design.
