Ryan Gargan Receives 2020 WTS Pittsburgh Honorable Ray LaHood Award

On February 12, 2020, the Pittsburgh Chapter of Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) presented Ryan Gargan with the 2020 Honorable Ray LaHood Award. Ryan is a senior project manager located in Lochner’s Pittsburgh office and was nominated by two Lochner employees—Claire McGinnis (Traffic Engineer) and Mallory Burke (Roadway Design Engineer)—as well as his colleague Jennie McCracken.
The Honorable Ray LaHood Award recognizes men who are both leaders in the transportation industry and have directly contributed to the advancement of women and minorities. As a recipient of the award, Ryan is recognized for seeking out opportunities to advocate for women and to help them compete for key positions of authority, thereby advancing the reputation and credibility of women in transportation.

When Claire was asked about Ryan as her nominee choice, she said, “Ryan fosters an environment where employees of all backgrounds feel welcome. Not only do I feel welcome, I feel like a valued part of the team. In addition, Ryan has supported WTS Pittsburgh since its formation as well as my attendance at the WTS Chapter Leader training, which gave me the opportunity to network with peers from across the country.”

Mallory said, “I have worked with Ryan throughout my entire career and am lucky to have had such a great mentor. I have been supported and appreciated from day one and always feel comfortable sharing feedback with him.”

“Ryan was my first sponsor,” Jennie said. “He came to me one afternoon to tell me that I’d become a board member of a local ASHE organization and that I would begin project manager training that year. He was the first to see the value I could bring and push me. I’m now a leader in my organization, and I often think about the impact that moment had on my career.”
