Bangerter Highway 4 Interchanges Design-Build Named Best Projects Winner
Lochner is pleased to announce the Bangerter Highway 4 Interchanges Design-Build project was selected as the 2019 Intermountain Best Projects winner in the Highway/Bridge category by ENR Mountain States. This project replaced Bangerter Highway’s at-grade intersections with grade-separated interchanges.
As a design subconsultant, Lochner was responsible for designing two of the four interchanges (7000 South and 9000 South). Due to limited right of way, both were designed as single point urban interchanges (SPUI). Because the contract was awarded in January, the Lochner team had to meet a significantly accelerated schedule to allow the 7000 South interchange to be operational by the required deadline of Thanksgiving that same year. Maintenance-of-traffic phasing for both locations included building ramps while also keeping six traffic lanes and multiple turn lanes at intersections open throughout peak hours.
